About this retaining ring
This is a retaining ring in 304 Stainless Steel, at strength class A2-70, supplied plain, with an M3 thread and a 550 mm length. Every dimension is stated against the standard named above; where a tolerance class matters to your design, ask us and we will confirm it in writing before you order.
A retaining ring locates a component axially on a shaft or inside a bore, seating in a machined groove so the part cannot walk out of position. Used on shafts, bearings, pins and gear assemblies where an axial stop is needed but a shoulder or collar is not possible.
Plain (self-colour) means no coating. On 304 and 316 stainless that is fine — the alloy passivates on its own. On carbon steel it will rust, so choose a coated option instead.
M3 is a metric thread with an 3 mm nominal diameter and a coarse pitch of 0.5 mm (ISO 261). A standard hex head takes a 5.5 mm spanner across the flats.
