About this screw

This is a screw in 1022A Carbon Steel, at strength class Case Hardened 450 HV0.3, supplied black oxide (hardened), with an M5 thread and a 12 mm length. Every dimension is stated against the standard named above; where a tolerance class matters to your design, ask us and we will confirm it in writing before you order.

A screw threads directly into the parent material or into a nut, so the thread form, the point and the drive decide what it can be used for. Commonly used on machinery, tooling, appliances, electrical enclosures, furniture and automotive assemblies where the head has to sit low or be driven from one side only.

Black oxide on a hardened 10.9 / 12.9 part: stays within tight tolerances, adds mild corrosion resistance and avoids the hydrogen embrittlement that acid zinc plating can cause on high-strength steel.

A carbon steel, the default material for structural fastening. Anything grade 8.8 and up needs a coating — zinc, black oxide or Dacromet — or it will rust.
