About this bolt
This is a bolt in Carbon Steel, at strength class Grade 4.8, supplied zinc plated, with an M10 thread. Every dimension is stated against the standard named above; where a tolerance class matters to your design, ask us and we will confirm it in writing before you order.
A bolt passes through the parts it joins and is closed with a nut, so the joint is held by the clamp load the tightened bolt develops rather than by the shank itself. Bolts of this type are used on structural steelwork, machine frames, brackets, flanges and pipework — anywhere the joint has to come apart again for maintenance.
Grade 4.8 is low-carbon steel at 400 MPa tensile / 320 MPa yield. Suitable for light-duty, non-critical joints and the cheapest option per piece.
Electroplated zinc is a sacrificial coating, typically 5–12 µm. It protects carbon steel indoors and in sheltered outdoor work; move up to hot dip or Dacromet for long outdoor exposure.
