About this washer
This is a washer in 65Mn Spring Steel, at strength class Grade 4.8, supplied black oxide, with an M4 thread and a 7 mm length. Every dimension is stated against the standard named above; where a tolerance class matters to your design, ask us and we will confirm it in writing before you order.
A washer spreads the clamp load of the fastener over a wider area of the joint face and keeps the turning nut or head from scoring the part underneath. Fitted under bolts, screws and nuts on soft or painted surfaces, slotted holes, and any joint that is taken apart often enough for the face to matter.
65Mn is a manganese spring steel used for spring washers, retaining rings and clips, where the part must stay elastic rather than rigid.
Black oxide is a conversion coating about 1–2 µm thick, usually oiled. It adds mild corrosion resistance and keeps dimensions exact, which matters on 10.9 and 12.9 parts — there is no hydrogen embrittlement risk.
